ICE - In Case of an Emergency

Put Your Cell Phone On ICE

Marie Story, Broker Associate with Coldwell Banker Residential Real Estate in Pinecrest, has kicked off her public service campaign to encourage people to enter an emergency contact number in their cell phone's memory under the heading "ICE" (In Case of Emergency).  Law enforcement and medical personnel know to look for this information.

According to Story, "Your chances of surviving a medical emergency can improve if those providing care know more about your physical condition and medical history.  This contact information will give paramedics, firefighters and police officers the ability to contact your designated family members or friends in the event of an emergency."  Emergency responders will know immediately that ICE contacts have been programmed into your cellular phone when they see the nationally recognized ICE symbol.  Story has printed the "ICE" stickers and are available by contacting her.

 The procedure is simple:

  1. Type the acronym ICE into your cell phone followed by a name ex. ICE- Marty, ICE- Beverly, ICE- Mom (you may have more than one ICE entry) then add their phone numbers, save each individual entry.
  2. Inform these people that they are an "ICE" contact for you.  Let them know your doctors phone number and any medical condition that might affect your emergency care.
  3. Apply the "ICE" sticker to the back of your cell phone so that emergency responders will know you have established an emergency communication protocol.

According to Chief John Hohensee of the Pinecrest Police Department, "We are well aware of the ICE concept and for quite some time now have encouraged our citizens to enter this information into their personal cell phones.  Should you become disabled or incapable of communicating with First Responders, this information will be vital to not only alert loved ones about your situation but also for them to provide important information about you so that appropriate treatment can commence immediately."
